Two council workers suspended for fuel fraud

Fuel fraud

The Mayoress of Manilva, Antonia Muñoz, has signed an order suspending without pay two public employees implicated in fraudulantly obtaining fuel on the Town Hall account for personal use.

The irregularities came to light during a recent efficiency drive to reduce the Town Hall fuel bill. The two employees will remain on suspension pending further action.

Manilva seeks funding for archaeological school

Manilva’s local authorities have applied to the Provincial office of the Andalucian Employment Service for funding to create an archaeological school, with the objective of enhancing Manilva’s rich archaeological heritage whilst at the same time providing training for local people.

Manilva town hall’s environmental department was alerted to a serious environmental crime in the Rio Manilva area recently, and as such proceded to visit the area to inspect it and inform both the local police force and SEPRONA, the Guardia Civil’s environmental division, of its findings.

Local mystery writers strike again!

The Pearls of Tangiers

Mary Chiappe, twenty-two years resident in Manilva, began with a witty autobiography, ‘The Grapes of Warmth’ – about settling in this area, now sadly out of print – and moved to co-authoring a historical whodunit series set in Gibraltar. She writes with a childhood friend, Sam Benady, who is a retired paediatrician and amateur historian. An ancestor of his was kidnapped by pirates off this very coast of ours – near la Torre de la Sal - and had to be ransomed by the Consul in Malaga! Mary says her family were not worth kidnapping – ‘Peasants, a cobbler and one gypsy in my ancestry were not abductable material!’

Lloyd Thornton a 13 year old student of Las Vinas High School in Manilva a talanted Downhill Rider strikes again in the 2nd Trofeo International "Villa de Competa" Mountain bike downhill race, he achieved 1st place again in his catagory with a winning time of 2:49:30 his nearest competitor coming in 2nd some 25 seconds slower.
