Norfolk
Island Pine
Araucaria
heterophylla
Height: 30 m
Spread: 15 m
A member of the Monkey-puzzle
family these stately trees, originally native to Norfolk Island,
New Zealand, can be found in most warm climates.
It is resistant to the salt
air, but if not kept watered it will sprout from near the trunk
which spoils its symetrical shape.
You can remove lower branches
as the tree gains height to improve it's appearance but do not
reduce the central leader as this will cause multiple heads which
will completely spoil the trees elegant shape.
This fine specimen can be
found next to the church in Sabinillas, Manilva.
