Burglar caught in Marina de Casares

Officers of Manilva’s Policia Local have arrested a 45 year old man who is believed to be responsible for at least three recent robberies in the municipality of Manilva.
The man, from Gaucin, is well know to the police and has been arrested at least 16 times previously and been charged with some 40 different offences.
The man has been the subject of an ongoing investigation and at the moment of arrest was found in possession of a quantity of cash and jewellery.

Work begins erecting 3,000 seater stadium
 

This month La Noria beach in Sabinillas will play host to the 1st Manilva International Beach Football Festival which is to be held over the weekend of the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of August.

This football spectacular will be contested by teams of footballing legends from six countries, namely England, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Spain and Gibraltar. The action will be centred on a 3,000 seater stadium which will be set up on the beach with an adjoining ‘football village’ allong the promenade with numerous stalls, hospitality and refreshment stands, etc.

Theatre and cinema week

This week is cinema week at the Colegio San Luis school in Sabinillas and as a prelude the local Municipal Theatre Group and the handicapped society LUISANA will be staging an evening of theatre on Wednesday, 30th July.

From 10.30 pm LUISANA will be presenting the work "Palabras" after which the Municipal Theatre Group will perform "Sangre Gorda" by the brothers Álvarez Quintero and "La Foto" by Ana Santos.
Following this from 31st July to 3rd August you can enjoy Cinema Week with screenings each evening from 10 pm:

Thursday, 31st July:  Comedy: “Va a ser que nadie es perfecto”.
Friday, 1st August:  Children’s: ”Horton”.
Saturday, 2nd August:  Action night: “300”.
Sunday, 3rd August: Cine Español: “ Alatriste”.

 
Boating tragedy off Duquesa

The coastguard and other rescue services are still searching for the skipper of a motor yacht which capsized off the port of Duquesa on Saturday, 26th July.
The tragedy took place around 1 pm when the authorities were alerted to the accident which occurred during a strong westerly.
The owner of the boat, which is based in Sotogrande Port is believed to be a 47-year-old man.

Sabinillas Health Centre innauguration 

Today saw the official innauguration of the Sabinillas Health Centre which was performed by the Junta de Andalucia's Councillor for Health, María Jesús Montero, along with the Mayoress,  Antonia Muñoz, and the Manilva Councillor responsible for Health, Emilio López Berenguer, also attending were councillors from all local political parties, the Provincial Delagate for Health, María Antigua Escalera, and the Costa del Sol District Health Director, Manuel Bayona.

Local mystery writers strike again!

The Pearls of Tangiers

Mary Chiappe, twenty-two years resident in Manilva, began with a witty autobiography, ‘The Grapes of Warmth’ – about settling in this area, now sadly out of print – and moved to co-authoring a historical whodunit series set in Gibraltar. She writes with a childhood friend, Sam Benady, who is a retired paediatrician and amateur historian. An ancestor of his was kidnapped by pirates off this very coast of ours – near la Torre de la Sal - and had to be ransomed by the Consul in Malaga! Mary says her family were not worth kidnapping – ‘Peasants, a cobbler and one gypsy in my ancestry were not abductable material!’
