The Duquesa Society of St. George held it’s annual St. George’s dinner dance on Thursday 21st April. The Society, which was formed in 2005, organises at least two events each year, the actual St. George’s celebration dinner dance which has been held for the last few years at Macues Restaurant in Duquesa Port, and a summer ball and barbecue which is held at the H10 Hotel in Estepona.

Work is expected to begin soon on the new Racquets Centre, planned for Manilva. The site is located in the Maicandil area of Sabinillas and will occupy some 7,826 square metres, and will feature 6 padel courts, 2 tennis courts, and one each for squash and badminton.

12 noon Procession.
Holy Wednesday - 20th April
11.00 pm Via Crucis procession starts from the church and proceeds through Calle Cuartel and El Camino del Calvario.
Holy Thursday - 21st April
8.00 pm Mass in the the church.
11.30 pm Procession of Jesus of Nazareth.
Good Friday - 22nd April
5.00 pm Adoration of the Cross.
6.30 pm Procession of "Santo Entierro" and Ntra Sra de los Dolores".
12 midnight Procession "De la Soledad". This procession is undertaken in strict silence.

Spain and Bolivia competed in the final of the I Manilva International 7-A-Side Football Tournament which took place on Sunday 27 March at the Las Viñas football ground. Spain were crowned the victors having beaten Paraguay and England in the early stages to reach the final with Bolivia.

Manilva will once again play host to some of the best talent in the world of comic artists and writers. Organised by Manilva's Culture Department in collaboration with Ateneo de Ageciras cultural association, the event will be held in the Villa Matilde in Sabinillas from 1 to 3 April.

Guardia Civil officers have arrested a man for numerous robberies of bars and restaurants in Sabinillas and Manilva. The arrest has come as the result of a number of investigations which officers tied together once they realised that they all shared a similar 'modus operandi', which pointed to a Portuguese national known locally as 'El Portugués' who was subsequently arrested and is expected to appear in court in the near future. |

Mary Chiappe, twenty-two years resident in Manilva, began with a witty autobiography, ‘The Grapes of Warmth’ – about settling in this area, now sadly out of print – and moved to co-authoring a historical whodunit series set in Gibraltar. She writes with a childhood friend, Sam Benady, who is a retired paediatrician and amateur historian. An ancestor of his was kidnapped by pirates off this very coast of ours – near la Torre de la Sal - and had to be ransomed by the Consul in Malaga! Mary says her family were not worth kidnapping – ‘Peasants, a cobbler and one gypsy in my ancestry were not abductable material!’
