Summer Events - 2006
This summer the Ayuntamiento has a packed calendar of events both cultural and sporting. Here is the programme for July, August and September (check the 'What's On' section of the forum for late additions and changes).

JULY
Children's Activities
1st/2nd and 8th/9th
Calle Mar in Manilva will be taken over by children for the first two weekends of July with loads of activities including face painting, fancy dress, juggling, etc all supervised by professional monitors. There will also be refreshments available. Runs from 18:00 to 23:00h.
July 1st to 31st August
There will be play activities, games and bouncy castles every evening from 18:00 to 21:00h on the beaches at Sabinillas, Puerto Duquesa and Castillo |

16th - Virgen del Carmen
The annual commemoration of the Patron Saint of sailors and fishermen takes place in Sabinillas, Duquesa and Castillo.

26th - Verbena de Santa Ana
Celebrating Manilva's Patron Saint with a variety of activities and events during the day.
Programme:
08:00h The Manilva Brass Band will parade around the streets of Manilva.
12:00h Various games and competitions in the Manilva Sports Complex.
Afternoon Sacred Mass and procession accompanied by the Manilva Town Band.
21:30h Music and dancing to the group 'Cupulo Show' in Calle Mar, Manilva.
23:30h Performance by the group 'Cantores de Hispalis'
Music and dancing to the early hours. |

27-29 - Theatre Week
Three nights of open-air theatre in Manilva's Calle Mar. Starts 22:00h.
27th Manilva Magic
Three of Spain's top magicians, escapoligists and illusionists will perform an astonishing range of 'magic.
28th An Evening of Short Plays (in Spanish)
"El Principe Bejamin" - Performed by the special needs group LUISANA
"Cambio de Suerte", "El Esposa y la Chismosa", and "Comos los Chorros del Oro" performed by the Municipal Theatre School directed by Ana Santos.
29th Drama
"Camaleon" performed by the Municipal Theatre School.
"Acto Imprevisto" directed by 'El Estable'.

29th - III Grand Night of Carnival
The Sabinillas Carnival Association "Peña Los Niños" present their third annual Carnival marathon at the School in Sabinillas.
Featuring award winning 'Chirogotas' (satirical music groups) from across the South of Spain.
Starts at 19:00h 'til late. |

25th - Verbena San Luis de Sabinillas
On Friday, 25th August, Sabinillas celebrates its patron saint beginning at 8 in the morning with a wake up call by the local brass band as it parades through the village streets.
From midday there will be competitions and games for the youngsters on the beach in Sabinillas.
In the early evening there will be a Mass in honour of San Luis, with music by the San Luis de Sabinillas Choir followed by a procession accompanied by Manilva's Municipal Band.
In the evening there will be entertainment in the Plaza Vicente Espinel (behind the taxi rank) starting at 10 pm with music and dance from the band "Calambre".
At 11 pm Spanish comedian Jose Manuel Soto will be live on stage, followed by more music and dancing until the early hours. |

SEPTEMBER
1st - XXVII 'Vendimia' Flamenco Festival
The annual Flamenco Festival to coincide with with the 'Vendimia' or Grape Festival will be held on Friday, 2nd September, in Manilva.
This festival is for the more serious Flamenco aficionado, and whilst there is some dancing, it is mostly the traditional, more serious, flamenco guitar and singing which will be performed on this night.
The festival will feature performances by:
"El Capullo" with Manuel Gero on guitar.
"Cancanilla" with Chaparro on guitar.
"El Carrete" with singer, 2 guitarists and 2 dancers.
Andres Lozano with Jose Fernandez on guitar.
Fernando de la Morena with Diego Morao.
"Pansequito" with Diego Amaya.
Antoñita Contreras.
Juan "El Minino".
The Flamenco Dance Group "Embrujo".
The evening will be presented by Paco Vargas and tickets are available from the Town Hall, Manilva; Tenencia de Alcaldia, Sabinillas; or the Castle in Castillo price 15€ in advance 20€ on the door.

2nd-3rd - Grape Festival
Every year, on the first weekend in September, Manilva celebrates its annual grape harvest. The vineyards of Manilva produce a particularly sweet grape - the Moscatel - and these are used in both the production of wine and raisins, as well as for the table.
