Jerez de la Frontera's Jerez airport is Cadiz Province's only airport (not counting Gibraltar) and is a viable alternative to Malaga's already congested airport.

Originally a military aerodrome constructed in 1937 Jerez was opened to civilian domestic and tourist traffic in 1946 and had it's first hard-surfaced runway built in 1952.

In 1968 Jerez aerodrome received its first international air traffic and in 1969 work began on a passenger terminal and the runway was extended to its current length of 2,300 metres.

In 1991 Aena, the Spanish airports authority, began renovation to bring the airport up to the standards required by today's air travellers and to cope with the projected doubling of traffic in the next ten years. For airlines serving Jerez see here.

There is plenty of parking at Jerez airport and the first half hour is free, with each subsequent hour or part of charged at €0.86.
