Punta Chullera
At the western end of the municipality, and also the westernmost point in the Province of Malaga, where it borders on Cadiz, the area known as Punta Chullera has, throughout history, been of great strategic value.
As soon as you see the views from this rocky promontory, you will realise why both the Moors and post-reconquest Spaniards built watchtowers here to monitor the uninterrupted view of the Straits of Gibraltar and both African and Spanish coastlines.
The coastline here consists of small sandy coves with rocky outcrops and is popular with shellfish gatherers and spear fishers. Punta Chullera's developments consist mostly of low rise private villas and the coastal urbanisation of Playa Paraiso with its large Scandinavian population.
In recent years Punta Chullera has been not been left out of Manilva's development with the urbanisations of La Paloma and Bahia de las Rocas seeing some very attractive projects. |
